WHO YOU ARE MATTERS
Where do you come from?
My mother’s womb.
Where are you going?
The afterworld. I don’t know yet if it’ll be an afterlife where I forget this life and start afresh. This idea scares me because I don’t want to forget who I am and the amazing people in my life. Or if it’ll be a heaven/hell scenario. I’m scared to accept the thought because what if I end up in hell and am tortured for an eternity ? It doesn’t sound like fun. But I also believe that heaven would be too crowded and boring because I don’t know how I’d pass the time.
How are you getting there?
Death. Hopefully it’ll be painless and when I am very old.
How are you like your parents?
We are all humans.
How are you unlike your parents?
They are older than me (and my dad is a male).
Are you living under your own expectations?
My mantra is let me live which basically informs people to not interfere or judge my life choices. So I believe that I am operating under my own expectations because I don’t let my family influence my major life decisions.
Pooh from Winnie the Pooh. He’s extremely passionate about eating honey (which I fully support). Also, Pooh was my first introduction to friendship at its purest form. I love how he supported his friends and encouraged them to achieve their goals.
What wild animal do you feel a special connection with, and why?
Frogs because they’re small (I’m 5’0”) and they walk really funnily. I don’t walk weirdly, but I think it would be fun to hop around everywhere. One time in San Francisco, I hopped across the white lines in the crosswalk and I had a blast.
Any significant experiences from your childhood that involve a tree?
My third grade class wanted to win a Disney Channel vacation for doing something good for the environment. For two weeks we raked pine needles from this tree behind our classroom. We didn’t have any tools, just our bare hands. The annoying thing with pine trees in winter is that they shed needles almost every day so it looked like we barely made a dent in our progress. I don’t know why we thought raking needles was a positive change for our environment, or how’d we submit our project to get the vacation because nobody took photos. I wish I could say it was a good memory, but now I look back and realized how stupid I was because it was my idea.
What are your astrological signs?
My Sun Sign is a Taurus, Moon Sign is a Gemini, and Leo Rising. The Gemini and Leo are scaring me into thinking that I’m a toxic person because I’ve heard jokes about them having bad traits. Hopefully, my Earth sign has enough redeeming qualities to cancel the other ones out.
Hi Ellie!
ReplyDeleteI SWEAR Geminis are not that bad! We are just misunderstood! Give us a chance haha. I love your astrological signs! Mine is Gemini sun, Cancer moon, and Gemini rising. I have a lot of Gemini energy within me lol.
Your wild animal is so cute!!!! Such a good choice too, like frogs are just perfect. They are so small, but also have hops for days. By the way, your role model is so wholesome. Pooh really is such a great bear and friend.
I'm sorry about your nature experience, but at least you can say that you took charge in the third grade lol! It's so funny that nobody took photos; that sounds like something from a comedy TV show bahaha.

Hi Ellie!
ReplyDeleteYour answer about the afterlife sent me into a bit of a crisis. Every once in a while I start thinking about afterlife and potentially forgetting or remembering this life. It really hurts my brain and I always have to do something else to distract me.
I live right in front of a creek and there are frogs all over my yard. Growing up I used to try and find them when they would start croaking in the dark. They're quite good at hiding and I was rarely successful.

Hi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate your mindset of "let me live," it's something that I think I haven't really lived by for a big part of my life and as I come into my own a bit, I'm looking to adopt that mindset more moving forward. Also really like that you chose Pooh as your role model, I definitely think there's a lot to learn from children's shows that we don't always take the time to look at.

Hey Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI really loved reading your blog post! I also really love Winnie the Pooh. When I was younger, I used to have a plush of Pooh in his nightgown that I would bring with me everywhere.
I also really love frogs! I used to be obsessed with playing Pocket Frogs when I was younger and more recently (as in maybe a few years ago), I really liked this Japanese frog character from a game called Travel Frog. I thought that he was pretty relatable, because he really just vibed in the game.

Hello Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI liked your answer for who your role model is and the reason for it. I think the way you answered the questions is revealing of your character and values and I agree that Winnie the Pooh is a good, pure introduction to themes of friendship and encouragement.
Also, I like when Winnie the Pooh says, "Oh, bother."

Hi there Ellie!
ReplyDeleteI related to you so much on the existential crisis / what is death / what is the afterlife part of your post. I took a class called "The Meaning of Life" during my first semester of college and it really changed the way I thought about life! Very similarly to you, I felt entrenched with these questions about life and death and what it all means. I feel comfort in the present moment because, in reality, it is the only thing we have! Also, I loved that Pooh is your role model. What a gentle soul to look up to!
Thank you for sharing,
Mason
Hey Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI thought you had a really unique perspective on your entire blog post. When it comes to the afterlife, I always wonder what it will be like, or if anything comes after. Like you said, only death will help me figure that one out, but I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet. I also think a frog is a perfect spirit animal for you. Can't wait to do this class with you!
Best,
Brooke
